Disaster Unemployment Assistance

If the disaster affected your job or ability to work, you might be eligible to receive some disaster unemployment assistance. You may also be eligible to receive some of this assistance if you are still able to work some of your hours, but not all of them. It should be noted, however, that you cannot get disaster unemployment assistance if you are already getting regular unemployment paychecks. To find out more information about your eligibility for disaster unemployment benefits, you can seek out the Disaster Unemployment Assistance program near you. They will be able to tell you the specific benefits you could be able to receive. Also, you will find information about ways to file a claim.

Zero Down Payment Mortgage Loans

People who lost their homes during a disaster may be able to receive assistance in getting a new mortgage loan. The loan would be an insured mortgage loan to help with either purchasing a new home or getting your damaged home renovated. The FHA, or Federal Housing Administration, offers extra assistance for people who need help in finding somewhere to live after being displaced during a disaster.
The mortgage insured loan will be one that requires no down payment in order to get qualified for. However, you may still have to pay for the closing costs or other prepaid expenses incurred with the mortgage loan. FHA mortgages do cost borrowers money. The borrower will have to pay the lender upfront premiums. If you do not have the money, the premiums can be added to your monthly mortgage payments. The HUD department will put limits on the amount that may be insured.

Home And Property Disaster Loans

For homeowners and renters who went through disasters, there are loan options available to replace things like vehicles, clothing and appliances. In most cases, renters can borrow up to $40,000 and homeowners may borrow up to $200,000. This money may not be used for second homes or vacation homes. The application for these loans may be found online at the Small Business Administration's website. You can also call them for more information. If approved, an inspector will come to your home and assess all of your damages.

Disaster Assistance Loans

Renters, homeowners, businesses and private organizations can apply for disaster assistance loans. This money can be used for repairing or replacing damaged items on your property due to the disaster. These loans can be applied for online through the Small Business Administration's website as well. They also have other low-interest loans available on their site as well.

Emergency Farm Loans

Farmers who have been affected by disasters have emergency farm loans available to them. These loans are for farmers who have had a reduction of at least 30 percent in their crops. To be eligible for these emergency loans, you must have been denied assistance from other lenders. The loans are funded through the United States Farm Service Agency for the Department of Agriculture.

In order to get approval, you will have to submit two separate forms. The first form will prove that your farm has suffered a loss. The second form will prove that you were denied assistance from other lenders. All forms must be submitted within eight months of the disaster. You do not have to have crop insurance during the time of the disaster to get approved. You will, however, have to get it in order for approval of the emergency farm loan. The loan can be used for things such as refinancing operating costs, paying essential living expenses, paying production costs and restoring or replacing any essential property that was damaged during the disaster. The loan may not be used for any other purposes.
